As a leading supplier of ceramic fiber board, we are committed to delivering high-performance materials that meet the most demanding requirements for fire resistance and acoustic performance. Our involvement in the Dubai Marina skyscraper project highlights our ability to provide innovative solutions that exceed industry standards. This case study details how our ceramic fiber board played a crucial role in creating a fire-resistant barrier that achieved exceptional fire integrity and sound insulation.

Background

The Dubai Marina developer faced the challenge of constructing a skyscraper that met stringent fire safety regulations and acoustic performance standards. The fire-resistant partition walls needed to achieve a 4-hour integrity rating at temperatures up to 1000°C, while also providing effective sound insulation. Traditional masonry solutions were deemed too heavy and impractical for the project, necessitating an innovative approach. This presented an opportunity for our ceramic fiber board to shine.

Challenge

The primary challenge was to create a fire-resistant barrier that could maintain its integrity for 4 hours at temperatures reaching 1000°C, while also achieving a high level of acoustic performance. The solution needed to be lightweight to reduce structural load and meet the strict fire safety codes of the United Arab Emirates Civil Defense. As a supplier, our goal was to provide a material that not only met these requirements but also offered superior performance and reliability.

Our Solution

To address these challenges, we recommended a composite solution using our 128 kg/m³ ceramic fiber board. Our ceramic fiber board was chosen for its exceptional thermal resistance, low thermal conductivity, and high acoustic performance. The installation process involved sandwiching the ceramic fiber board between gypsum boards to create a robust and lightweight fire-resistant barrier. Additionally, fire-resistant expansion boards treated with intumescent paint were incorporated to enhance fire resistance.

Installation Process

  1. Preparation: The installation site was prepared by ensuring the surfaces were clean, dry, and free from debris.
  2. Gypsum Board Installation: Gypsum boards were installed on both sides of the partition wall, providing a stable base for the ceramic fiber board.
  3. Ceramic Fiber Board Installation: Our 128 kg/m³ ceramic fiber board was cut to size and carefully placed between the gypsum boards. The boards were secured using appropriate fasteners to ensure stability.
  4. Expansion Board Application: Fire-resistant expansion boards treated with intumescent paint were installed to fill gaps and provide additional fire resistance.
  5. Sealing and Finishing: Joints and seams were sealed with fire-resistant sealants to ensure a continuous barrier. The final layer of gypsum board was applied and finished to match the surrounding surfaces.

Results

The installation of our ceramic fiber board in the Dubai Marina skyscraper achieved remarkable results:
  1. Fire Resistance: The composite barrier successfully achieved a 4-hour fire integrity rating at temperatures up to 1000°C, meeting and exceeding the project’s fire safety requirements.
  2. Acoustic Performance: The solution provided a sound reduction index of 52 dB, ensuring excellent acoustic insulation and meeting the project’s soundproofing goals.
  3. Lightweight Structure: Compared to traditional masonry solutions, the use of our ceramic fiber board reduced the structural load by 70%, contributing to the overall efficiency and sustainability of the building.
  4. Compliance and Testing: The fire-resistant barrier passed the rigorous fire safety tests conducted by the United Arab Emirates Civil Defense, ensuring compliance with local regulations and standards.

Conclusion

As a supplier of ceramic fiber board, we are proud to have contributed to the success of the Dubai Marina skyscraper project. Our ceramic fiber board demonstrated its effectiveness in providing superior fire resistance and acoustic performance, meeting the stringent requirements of the project. The innovative solution not only met but exceeded expectations, offering significant advantages in terms of weight reduction and structural efficiency. This case study highlights our commitment to delivering high-performance materials that enhance safety, sustainability, and reliability in modern construction projects.
